A Little Bit About Us

Hi, I’m Tamara—and I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.

I work with women, teens, and young people who’ve been through more than most—those carrying invisible burdens, navigating big feelings, or feeling a little lost on their path. If that sounds like you, know this: you don’t have to hold it all alone anymore.

I’m a qualified practising counsellor (Bachelor of Counselling), and the founder of The Counselling Avenue—a boutique practice offering real, compassionate support for those in need of a safe space to heal. My approach is gentle, grounded, and deeply trauma-informed.

I’ve spent years walking alongside people through some of life’s most painful chapters. My background includes working in women’s centres, refuges, family violence support services, high schools, and telephone counselling lines. Every space I’ve worked in has shaped me and deepened my commitment to showing up with empathy, presence, and care.

In our sessions, I blend evidence-based methods with a human approach. I draw on person-centred, strength-based, and trauma-informed therapies—creating a space where you can feel seen, supported, and gently empowered to move forward in your own way.

At the heart of my work is the belief that healing is possible, and you are worthy of it. My role is to hold space for you to reconnect with your inner strength, make sense of your story, and take the steps that feel right for you.

Whether you're rebuilding after trauma, coping with anxiety or grief, or just trying to find clarity in the chaos—I'm here. And I’d be honoured to walk this part of your journey with you.

At The Counselling Avenue, we focus on client wellness believing that this is not the absence of unhappiness or sadness but the presence of gratitude, happiness and hope. We work in a holistic and integrative manner to find the inner strengths that our clients bring to therapy. Working with you, we believe this is your journey and the path is paved by your needs, desires and hopes for the future.

The Counselling Avenue partners with other service providers for a holistic and integrated approach to therapy and wellness. Motivated Minds, specialise in techniques for the management of ADHD for women and children and works closely with children around their educational needs.
