We work mostly with women

Because women’s health and needs are different to men’s, we specialise in women’s mental health and well-being.

While our services are available to all genders our focus is towards women, children, young people and gender diverse. We do not discriminate so if you believe that our counselling service would suit your needs please call us. If you are looking for couples counselling, we are happy to refer you to one of our specialist couples counsellors. Many of our clients find it beneficial to have their own counsellor, as well as a couples counsellor.

What can you talk about at counselling?

You can talk about anything you are experiencing or want help with. Common requests that we see are family and relationship issues, work-related issues, career guidance, grief and loss, physical health, ongoing mental health issues, depression, anxiety, addiction and self-harm.

What methods are used at the Counselling Avenue

We believe in a person-centred, strength-based approach. We use lots of different modalities depending on your preferences. This is called pluralistic counselling. We implement Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as part of our practice and we can explore other therapies. We are always guided by you and your needs. There is more information about pluralistic counselling and the other methods that we use on our FAQ page and on our blog.
